Spanish e-coffee with… UK - Scotland

In Servitalent/ Talentor Spain we created this initiative called "Spanish e-coffee with..." for two reasons. First, to be able to share a close space with our partners of the Talentor International network and secondly, to be able to talk about the search for executive talent in each country with the aim of improving our global recruitment services within this network.

On this occasion we shared a very pleasant space and had the opportunity to talk about possible collaborations with our partners: Denholm Associates Ltd. (Talentor UK - Scotland).

Douglas
We asked
Douglas Cross, their Director, some questions about the important factors to take into account when looking for talent in the UK and Scotland. This is what he shared with us:

  • Hi Douglas! Tell us a little bit about Denholm Associates Ltd. representing Talentor UK - Scotland!

Denholm Associates was originally focused on recruiting for Marketing Communications and Digital roles across a number of key sectors.
In the last 5 years we have been developing experience across other skill sets and have doubled in size in the last 2 years with 32 now in our team working across 10+ sectors.

With our marketing heritage we bring marketing principles to all of the campaigns that we work on. We help businesses attract talent as well as promote their employer brand through our unique talent attraction tool BrandBox so they can be seen as an employer of choice in what is a very competitive market.

  • What would you say are the most important factors to consider for a foreign company when looking for talent in the UK? What important aspects should you consider before starting the search (culture, legislation, salary policies, mobility, social benefits, etc)?

The UK has very different challenges depending on where you plan to base people. London is unique due to its cost of living being very high and salaries for equivalent roles higher than anywhere else in the UK.
So, if you are looking for employees to be based in London and surrounding áreas, you can expect to pay significantly more in terms of salary and package. Certain sectors also have geographical concentration of talent so you need an understanding of where will be the most likely place to find that skill or industry experience that you are looking for.

  • ¿Cuáles son los puestos más demandados por las empresas extranjeras en este respectivo mercado?
All industries, at the moment, are fighting hard to attract what seems to be a shrinking market for talent. All sectors have unique challenges, some of which are Audit staff within accountancy, commercial sales, people within technology and sales people in general in the South East/London área within the FMCG sector, just some examples.

Competition for talent is hugely challenging with unemployment in the UK market very low.

  • And which sectors are you specialized in?
We have client focused teams specifically managing key sectors across Marketing Communications and digital positions for sectors including FMCG, Financial Services, Professional Services, Manufacturing, Technology and Marketing and Communications Agencies.
In addition we have added new teams with a focus on recruiting specific skill sets that support the client teams and recruit Technology Infrastructure and Change, Operations & Supply Chain, Finance & Accountancy and Business Services.

  • Do you have any experience with the Spanish market?
One of our key drinks clients has their HQ based in Madrid for one of their key divisions, so we placed talent into that office.

Always keen to explore new markets and Spain would be no different!

We thank Douglas for this interview! We certainly can't wait for the next e-coffee and future collaborations between the two teams!
