Last month we were able to enjoy our well-known "Spanish e-coffee with..." together with our partners from Germany (Talentor Germany Frankfurt).

Thanks to these short and relaxed meetings, we have the opportunity to learn more about the market in each of the countries that are part of Talentor (an international network of executive talent search, of which we are a member).

On this occasion, thanks to the coffee we have shared with our colleagues, we would like to offer you some tips that will be useful for you, and your company, when you are looking for talent in Germany, as there are several peculiarities and specific characteristics of the German labor market that you should take into account.

  • Education and vocational training

Germany has a highly valued educational and vocational training system. Many professionals have academic degrees or technical training certifications. Pay attention to specific education and training in the areas relevant to your vacancies.

  • Language

Although many German professionals speak English, especially in international business environments, knowledge of German can be essential, especially for roles involving communication with local colleagues or clients. Fluency in German can be a key requirement for certain jobs.

  • Work culture

The work culture in Germany values efficiency, punctuality and planning. German employees tend to be organized and appreciate clarity in work expectations.

  • Job stability

Job stability is important for German professionals. Offering long-term contracts and demonstrating a long-term commitment to employee development can be a plus.

  • Salary negotiation

Salary negotiation is common in Germany. Be aware of market salary expectations and be transparent about the compensation offered.

  • Social benefits

Germany has a comprehensive social security system, but additional benefits such as supplementary health insurance, pension plans and generous vacation days are key aspects for many professionals.

  • Diversity and inclusion

Diversity and inclusion are important aspects of the German work environment. Companies that promote an inclusive work environment tend to be more attractive to talent.

  • Work-life balance

Work-life balance is a priority for German employees. Offering flexible working hours, the possibility to work from home and respecting working hours will help to attract talent.

  • Ongoing training

Germany values continuous training and professional development. Emphasize training and growth opportunities within your company.

  • Labor references

Employment references are common in the hiring process. Employers may request and provide references to validate candidates' experience and skills.

  • Parental and vacation leave

Germany has labor laws that support parental leave and paid vacation. Understanding and respecting these aspects will help attract and retain talent.

In Servitalent, as you know, we have a partner in Germany which, being a local team, takes into consideration all these peculiarities and adapts its recruitment approach accordingly, making it much easier to be well positioned to attract and retain talent in the German labor market.
